One thing that I’ve noticed over the years is that authors, despite writing thousands upon thousands of words in our own novels, tend to neglect our blogs. I’m ashamed to admit that I’ve fallen into the same routine has many other authors. So, with that being said, I wanted to sit down and take some time to update the blog so you know what I’m working on right now and what and what not to expect.
First of all, I have unfortunate news. Work on Flame of Redemption has come to halt. At this point the novel is on hold indefinitely until I feel up to returning to it. I’ve put a lot of thought into it. This was a tough decision and not one I made quickly. I know there are readers out there that were looking forward to the next book in the series, so to those of you whom were awaiting the sequel I apologize profusely. It was always and still is my intention to finish the series, but a number of factors have deterred me from continuing it. I do plan on coming back to the novel at some point down the road, but right now my focus is elsewhere. The word indefinitely doesn’t mean forever. It simply means that I do not know when I’ll be resuming work on the novel, so if you’re waiting for the next book, it will be out eventually.
My current focus is on a new novel I’m writing which is tentatively named, “The Puppet Prince”. This is the beginning of a series in which I feel very confident about. My writing is going in a new direction with this story and I’ve committed to much more world and character building than my previous series. I always felt that the characters and world weren’t as fleshed out as I could have made them in “Bound by Fire” and thus I’ve learned from my mistakes and have used that knowledge in this new endeavor. Also, unlike “Bound by Fire” I’ve completed building the rough draft of a map as the world and characters will be far more complex in this upcoming book. Here’s a sneak peek of the map below (click for full size):
The basic premise follows the life of the Second Prince (name withheld for now) as he attempts to learn the ins and outs of court while attempting to thwart the political machinations of the seven Burgesses that rule each part of the kingdom. When an assassination attempt on the royal family is uncovered, the prince has to try and discover the source and put a stop to the plan before it’s too late. The title of the novel should give you a good idea of what to expect.
The novel has been started, but it’s still very early in and thus I can’t reveal too much right now. Once the novel is completed I’ll have a much more enticing description of the story. There’s quite a bit more going on than what I’ve eluded to, but I need to keep those plot devices to myself until the writing is finished.
Anyway, that’s it for my update. I’ll try to post more regularly hence forth as work progresses on the new novel.
